If you work in healthcare today – no matter the setting or discipline – you are acutely aware of the healthcare workforce challenge we are facing. As the largest percentage of the healthcare workforce, nursing is at the forefront of concern. Certainly the Covid crisis exacerbated issues of adequate staffing, burnout/satisfaction, and difficult navigation of the care continuum, however it is well documented that challenges existed prior to 2020 and will persist as we move forward. Delivering care during Covid demanded innovation and problem-solving, often creating or strengthening partnerships including public health, community agencies, or even previously under-leveraged collaboration within systems. The question remains whether we can build upon some of the innovations generated by the pandemic response and continue to make necessary changes to ensure quality of care and viability for the future.
The L3 Advisors Group believes that the necessary change to our healthcare system will come from workforce innovation, and that the current environment is the right time to engage and capitalize on the experience of the nursing workforce during the pandemic. The message is clear – solutions and future vision must evolve FROM the workforce rather than the workforce having to accommodate and adapt to modifying the current state.
